Well, that rattling camera on the table means it's time for another episode of beyond the Glass, starring the ever coordinated Richard Colon.
Speaker B:Super, super coordinate.
Speaker B:You know, I love fidgeting with things.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:So I'm trying to get this lens cap off of this camera so I can fidget with it.
Richard:Yeah.
Speaker B:Because I have super anxiety.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:I don't know, I need to fidget something.
Speaker B:So of course I made little racket.
Speaker B:So I'm sorry about that.
Speaker B:Well, yeah, we're back with another episode.
Speaker B:We had a few other artists here earlier recording, and we're down to our last one of the night.
Speaker B:And I'm excited about this one.
Speaker B:Real great photographer, really great friend.
Speaker B:And, yeah, we actually had this artist.
Speaker B:It actually will be a year in two months.
Richard:Yeah, that's right.
Speaker B:It was our last part of our last crew for December, and we ended really strong with our first year, and it was great.
Speaker B:I was very, you know, Q and I are very proud of the.
Speaker B:The people we put out there.
Speaker B:And.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So today we have Eric.
Eric:Eric.
Eric:Yeah.
Eric:So first I want to say thank you for that introduction.
Eric:It was an amazing time.
Eric:I can't believe it's already been a year.
Eric:Like, that's.
Eric:Time flies, right?
Speaker B:Yeah, yeah, it's.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:What's crazy is, is that we were just talking with, you know, another artist, and we're just talking about, wow, that so many things have happened in terms of Rochester and the arts community.
Speaker B:And it's great to, you know, check in with people that have been part of the gallery because then we can see.
Speaker B:Okay, you know, you guys all now do your own thing.
Speaker B:And, you know, not that behind the glass brought connections or anything.
Eric:I think it did a lot.
Speaker B:But I feel like, you know.
Richard:Yeah.
Speaker B:I would like to say that for sure that we helped, you know, bridge a lot of different things.
Speaker B:But it's crazy because everybody now, we feel like, are so.
Speaker B:Like they're heavyweights now in the city of roster, because they all have their own little corners where they're building community in all different, you know, different types of ways.
Richard:Yeah.
Speaker B:So.
Richard:Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Richard:And that's.
Richard:And everybody starts.
Richard:And everybody coming in the gallery starts where they are.
Richard:You're not.
Richard:Everybody's coming in all on the same wall.
Richard:Doesn't matter how much, you know, how much your work has been seen all around town.
Richard:Doesn't matter if it's never been seen around, that everybody comes in.
Richard:You're on the same walls, and they all get to experience that at the same time together.
Richard:Just one of the great things about is that, hey, we're all here just showing our work.
Richard:Like, there's no separation.
Richard:Like, oh, yeah, I've been running a business for this long or my stuff's all over town.
Richard:No, this is your work right on the wall next to somebody else who's never been shown.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Richard:And it's really cool to see the progression too.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:And on top of that, just touch base again to let everybody know, because not everybody saw what you put in that gallery in that and that time you were there.
Speaker B:Can you explain what you put up there?
Speaker B:Like, what was it?
Speaker B:Because it was very different and unique than just, you know, framing a picture and throwing it on there.
Eric:Yeah.
Eric:So I.
Eric:In the.
Eric:In the show, I included some.
Eric:Just a variety of things that I've been shooting right in the.
Eric:At the time, I chose to, like, display it the way I did, just because, for one, it was for me inexpensive.
Eric:Right.
Eric:And I kind of wanted to do something a little different.
Eric:And you did.
Speaker B:It was great.
Speaker B:It was like a.
Speaker B:It was wheat paste, correct?
Eric:Yep.
Eric:So I did some wheat paste on some pieces of wood.
Speaker B:Right, right.
Eric:That I had.
Eric:And I wanted to also print.
Eric:I wanted to display stuff that was big.
Eric:And the cheapest way for me to print big was to.
Eric:To just print it out on like printer paper and pieces like.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Eric:Graffiti.
Eric:So I thought that that was gonna work well with my style and that's just kind of how it came to be.
Eric:But going forward, I probably would have just went with frames.
Eric:It would have been a lot easier.
Eric:No, well, I mean, yours was one.
Speaker B:Of the most ones I loved of last year in terms of the presentation, because it was unique and it was different, I think.
Eric:Yeah.
Speaker B:And it also showcased you as a person because I feel like your background was more hard working type of things, you know, getting your.
Speaker B:And like wood.
Speaker B:Implementing wood, implementing the process of actually pasting things and, you know, conjuring up something to display is, I feel, more your style.
Speaker B:So I feel like it fit you, you know, beautifully.
Eric:Thank you.
Speaker B:Yeah, definitely.
Speaker B:So also talk a little bit about your, you know, what you do for full time, your full time, you know, thing that you do here in the city of Rochester.
Speaker B:Because it's really big.
Eric:Yeah.
Eric:So, yeah, full time.
Eric:I work with me.
Eric:It's me and my partners at Golden Supply Company and we do.
Eric:We started with pennants, banners, apparel, custom stuff mostly.
Eric:And then we opened a store and then ended up.
Eric:Now we're kind of branching off into some.
Eric:Some new types of things, our own apparel, trying to get our own, like really focus on our brand.
Speaker B:Right.
Eric:But we still have a lot of, you know, customers, clients that we, you know, that bring in the money that we have.
Speaker B:Yeah, I'm actually one of them.
Speaker B:I actually, I am a frequent custom hat buyer at Golden Supply.
Speaker B:I think I have like 10 hats that snapbacks.
Eric:You got some new ones in there that you don't have yet?
Speaker B:I don't.
Speaker B:There's some that I, I'm trying to avoid.
Speaker B:I was, I was there today and I purposely walked by cuz I didn't want to go in there.
Speaker B:But yeah, I do want to get the one with your new logo and the new font.
Speaker B:Yeah, I have one that's, that's supposed to be made for tomorrow as well.
Richard:Oh, I like it on the, I like it on the pink color too.
Richard:Yeah, that's, that's, that's sharp.
Eric:Listen, I don't think I've seen that one yet.
Richard:The Golden Supply Company with the.
Eric:Oh, the new.
Eric:Yeah, yeah, that one.
Richard:Yeah, that's.
Richard:That's beautiful.
Speaker B:Yeah, you guys have been doing great.
Speaker B:I mean, you just finished a project with Cinestill, if you want to talk more about that.
Eric:Yeah, we worked with Steve and Lou and obviously the Cinestill guys created some samples for them back in.
Eric:I think it was like January and January.
Speaker B:Almost a year.
Speaker B:Okay.
Eric:Yeah, it's been a while.
Eric:Well, maybe it was February, actually.
Eric:I think it was February.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:Okay.
Eric:But we kind of wanted to, you know, obviously we're fans of the film and it kind of came from that.
Eric:Just like wanted to do something for the guys.
Eric:I think they were in town right that week and we're like, oh, let's do some stuff for them.
Eric:And they kind of, they had it with them or different things.
Eric:And while they were back in la and I guess it, you know, they.
Eric:People were interested in the sweatshirts and they're like, oh, let's do a run and see how it does.
Eric:And that's where we're at now.
Eric:And I think yesterday.
Eric:Yeah, I'm pretty sure they sold out.
Eric:I think.
Eric:I know we've been talking about another.
Speaker B:Run, but now about the pennants.
Speaker B:Are the pennants still available?
Speaker B:Are those sold out as well?
Eric:I'm not sure.
Speaker B:Gotcha.
Speaker B:But those, those actually are also amazing in itself.
Speaker B:They look really great.
Speaker B:And I think that is a great blend of what Golden Supply is in terms of a company and what they put out and, you know, stapling in the Cinestill brand into that, implementing it together.
Speaker B:So a great Mixture together and it looks great.
Eric:Thank you.
Eric:Yeah, we're excited to do that.
Eric:That's like.
Eric:That was a big project for me, I think, you know, I think majority of the time I'm shooting a film, it's in a still film.
Eric:And not only that, but like, the guys that, they're just.
Eric:It's just a cool company.
Eric:Yeah, yeah.
Richard:What about that film hits you, you know, in the way you like to use it.
Eric:So I like 400d the most, I think, out of all of them.
Eric:But I do like.
Eric:I shoot the 800T.
Eric:I've shot 50D.
Eric:I don't know, a handful of times.
Eric:But the 400D, I don't know, I just feel.
Eric:I like the colors I get from it.
Eric:Yeah, it's kind of really.
Eric:And then the 800t as well.
Eric:I mean, I like the effects that you get from the lights.
Speaker B:What's your favorite camera to shoot with film camera?
Eric:Probably the Mamiya C330 right now.
Eric:And then close second would be the EOS 3 from Canon.
Speaker B:Okay.
Eric:Because it's.
Eric:It's basically a digital camera.
Speaker B:But I was gonna say there's something in that one, right?
Speaker B:Yeah, that's a good one.
Eric:It's the.
Eric:I think it was the last.
Speaker B:Yeah, it was the last.
Speaker B:I remember I was trying, when I was in the market to look for one and I looked at that one.
Speaker B:I was really hard on trying to get that one, and then I just.
Speaker B:Just fizzled.
Speaker B:I can't remember why I didn't get it, but it really caught my eye.
Eric:Yeah.
Eric:And you can use your EF lenses with it, so it's for sure.
Speaker B:That's awesome.
Speaker B:Is there also a place that you go to still develop your film or do you develop still at home, like when you started doing that also?
Eric:Yeah, I've.
Eric:I'm still developing at home.
Eric:I don't think I'll ever not develop at home.
Eric:It's just convenient for me.
Eric:And then it's just kind of become part of my style because I.
Eric:I like, you know, the.
Eric:The dust, the raw.
Eric:Like you're.
Eric:You're not going to get that from the, you know, get.
Eric:Taking it somewhere.
Eric:Right.
Eric:So I'll probably keep doing that.
Eric:I've actually just got into starting to create some sort of dark room right in my private space.
Eric:I don't know how long that's going to take.
Eric:It's kind of expensive to get all the stuff.
Speaker B:But I looked into it when I was getting back into film again, I was looking into.
Speaker B:Okay, can I make the Garage, a dark room.
Speaker B:And I was like, wait, this temperature evolving and all that.
Speaker B:I'm like, oh, my God.
Speaker B:It was a headache for me to even try and think about it.
Speaker B:And then I had somebody that developed come to my house to help me pick a different room.
Speaker B:And then I looked up all the supplies.
Speaker B:I looked up everything and how much I would be paying if I was gonna routinely keep up with it.
Speaker B:And it just didn't financially.
Speaker B:It just, you know, I don't think I ever would have the words of what?
Speaker B:Joe, Joe Tiger or whatever.
Speaker B:I wouldn't have financially recovered from it.
Speaker B:I was like, oh, like.
Speaker B:But what's great is that you get another.
Speaker B:I feel like you bring new life when you're developing your own film.
Speaker B:I took a class with Mark Watts over at Flower City Art center, and, you know, you were developing your own film, and just the process of doing that, you really are stapling in the story that you're trying to tell in your photography.
Speaker B:And to be able to do that in your home, it's.
Speaker B:It's a gift.
Speaker B:It's great.
Speaker B:It's a blessing.
Eric:Yeah.
Eric:I think that just like processing film, you know, creating your own prince is, you know, that's just another part of the.
Eric:It's nice to have that.
Eric:Like, it's just part of the art.
Eric:It's part of you.
Eric:It's part of everything comes from you.
Eric:It's like you took the photo, you processed the.
Eric:You process the film right, and then you develop.
Eric:Like, I just feel like that to me, like, that's important to me.
Speaker B:Yeah, No, I have somebody that loves it because they actually look forward to the imperfections that they get from developing their own film because they feel like it also brings another uniqueness like a snowflake to their, you know, photography, because it's different.
Speaker B:But.
Speaker B:Yeah, that's really awesome that you're able to do that and able to try and replicate that.
Speaker B:So what's next for.
Speaker B:For Eric for the rest of the year?
Speaker B:What.
Speaker B:What do you got going on coming up, man?
Speaker B:I mean, you can.
Speaker B:That you can talk about, because I know you may have some projects that are probably still in blueprint form or whatnot or that you can't really talk about yet, but, you know, give us a little hint of what we can expect from you moving forward.
Eric:So as far as photography goes, it's going to be a lot of what I've just been doing.
Eric:I actually been doing some location stuff for, like, airbnb locations and whatnot, and.
Speaker B:Those have been great.
Speaker B:I'VE been enjoying those.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Eric:My girlfriend and I started a Instagram where it's just kind of follows the travels and then.
Speaker B:Wait, you guys started?
Speaker B:I didn't even know you started.
Eric:Yeah.
Speaker B:That's amazing.
Speaker B:I think I'm over here enjoying them and I'm like, oh, I didn't even know they were actually doing that.
Eric:We've post.
Eric:Well, you've probably seen majority of the stuff that I'm posting on that because.
Speaker B:It'S like you, like, do the dual post thing.
Speaker B:Is that what it is?
Eric:Sometimes you could collaborate.
Eric:I haven't done any collaborations on there, but a lot of the content is similar.
Speaker B:It's amazing.
Speaker B:It's.
Speaker B:It's crazy because again, from what, you know, what we enjoyed, you know, Quaj and I, what we enjoyed about your photography is that again, you're.
Speaker B:You're giving people, in a way, a style, a vibe of, you know, whatever you're trying to portray.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:And, like, the angles and the lighting and everything that you look for in your photography, you actually capture that in these, these resort.
Speaker B:This resort destination.
Speaker B:And it's crazy because you know me as somebody that's just going through it in social media, I actually am invested in it now because I'm like, wow, I actually want to take somebody there.
Speaker B:I want to actually go there.
Speaker B:I want to actually, you know, visit that place.
Speaker B:And you're able to do that in the photography you're putting out there.
Speaker B:And it looks great.
Speaker B:It's amazing.
Eric:Thank you so much.
Eric:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Eric:That's kind of.
Eric:Yeah, it's, it's cool to hear that, like, you, you know, you're always your worst critic and, and there's so many good photographers that shoot that type of stuff.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Eric:And there's so many, like, accounts and that.
Eric:But I don't know, I kind of wanted to bring my own little taste to it.
Eric:And it's, it's, it's.
Eric:It's just something for me and her to do and, and something that we can look back on the stays that we have, and then if it does give some.
Eric:A company or a stay.
Eric:Right.
Eric:Some kind of publicity, then that's great.
Eric:That's awesome.
Eric:We're just kind of like showcasing the things that we like to do and.
Speaker B:Yeah, that's evident because again, you know, you, you, you hooked me because I guess I want to stay there.
Speaker B:And I'm pretty sure, you know, they're hopefully getting more business with what you guys are putting out there.
Speaker B:So congrats on that.
Eric:Thank you.

Eric:If you, if you're ever interested, there's.

Eric:There's some local Dell Collective.
Eric:They're out of Perry, New York.
Eric:They have a bunch of spots.
Eric:They're working on a.
Eric:I want to say, a fourth or fifth one out in the town of Perry in the Village.
Speaker B:Okay.
Eric:But they have a couple other really nice spots surrounding, like, the Letchworth area.
Speaker B:Nice.
Eric:If you're interested, look into them.
Eric:They're.
Eric:They're really cool.
Eric:And the woman that runs that is really nice.
Speaker B:Beautiful scenery.
Speaker B:Have you been to Letchworth, Chris?
Richard:Not much.
Richard:Not as much as I should, considering it's so close.
Richard:Like, there's so many of us that, like, barely ever get out there.
Richard:And it's like 40.
Richard:It's like, what, 45 minutes, right.
Richard:It's like the whole bunch of nothing to get there.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:And then it's the best time to do stuff like that now, during this season, the fall season, because it's beautiful out there.
Speaker B:Got great scenery and, you know, hopefully, you know, with the uptick of more people coming to this place, it could help bridge other opportunities for you to hopefully work with other companies, you know, to photograph for them.
Speaker B:So I appreciate you being able to share that with us because hopefully, again, it could bring more business to that Dell Collective.
Richard:Yeah.
Richard:No, that looks beautiful.
Richard:And speaking of beautiful, I just wanted to, you know, as we're closing out, I just wanted to shout out one of the.
Eric:Yeah.
Richard:I was going through the shop a little bit, and I saw this.
Richard:You know, the hat.
Richard:The Flower City Photo Club.
Richard:How did that.
Richard:How did that design come about?
Richard:Because that's really.
Richard:It's striking.

Richard:Yeah.
Richard:I didn't even know you were wearing it.

Eric:Yeah, this is actually.

Richard:With the film roll.

Speaker B:This series out, this set at the store, I saw it all out there before anything.
Speaker B:And then I literally was like, I.
Richard:Was, like, taking a picture during a podcast.
Richard:I was at it goes.
Eric:I had to get a photo of that.
Speaker B:I was like, Q.
Eric:He.
Speaker B:I was like, head up, Q.
Speaker B:Because.
Speaker B:Because the idea was I was there to pick up a hat for myself and Q.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So we were already gonna get the hat that everybody else had, which is the one that you see on that website.
Richard:Yeah.
Speaker B:So they made a bunch of those hats, and then they had two patches, and they only had two.
Speaker B:So me already doing custom hats all the time there.
Speaker B:I Literally picked up these two patches.
Speaker B:I was like, adam, can you throw these?
Speaker B:No, wait, it was you, right?
Speaker B:You were there?
Eric:Not.
Speaker B:Was it Adam or you that did it?
Eric:No, no, I think Adam was there.
Speaker B:Yeah, I think it was Adam.
Speaker B:And I was just like, Adam, easy to go on a snapback right now.
Speaker B:And then I hit up Q.
Speaker B:I was like, we're gonna do these two hats right now.
Speaker B:And then he's like, I bet.
Speaker B:So, yeah, him and I are the ones that have these ones.
Speaker B:I love it.
Richard:That's awesome.
Speaker B:Because it's a little bit bigger than what the other one was.
Speaker B:So it's.
Speaker B:Yeah, it's nice.
Speaker B:So don't.
Speaker B:Please don't remake these packs.
Eric:Yeah, I don't think that one's at least that exact ones coming back, but yeah, we might do some more Flower City stuff.
Eric:But it did come from just a love for photography and then being in the area, it's like we have to like.
Eric:I feel like this is the land of films and for sure.
Speaker B:Are you guys going to actually.
Speaker B:Oh, you know, you.
Speaker B:I didn't want to.
Speaker B:I didn't touch upon this.
Speaker B:You guys actually had multiple photo walks, right?
Eric:Yes.
Speaker B:Which is great.
Speaker B:Hosted by Golden Supply with, you know, other artists that have been in the gallery, like Aaron and Rudy and man.
Speaker B:Roberta did one too, as well.
Speaker B:I can't recall.
Eric:But we didn't.
Eric:We haven't done one yet with Roberto, but I mean.
Speaker B:Yeah, you guys maybe possibly thinking of doing one and again soon.
Eric:We.
Eric:So they're.
Eric:They're.
Eric:They're a lot of work, I'm sure.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Eric:And there's so many people doing them now.
Eric:Like, I feel like you guys have.
Eric:I think you guys.
Eric:Because people have kind of the network has, you know, come together and like, people are starting to meet each other and think of new ideas and there's a lot of photo walks going on right now.
Eric:That.
Speaker B:Correct.
Eric:It's almost like we don't pass the bar to somebody else to let them.
Eric:It's a lot of work.
Eric:And for us, like, we do a lot of other stuff.
Eric:So we're trying to kind of like if.
Eric:If we do it probably be few and far between.
Speaker B:Right.
Eric:But we did.
Eric:The last one we did was with Adam Zeroni.
Speaker B:Oh, yes.
Eric:And that went.
Eric:Went really well.
Eric:We.
Eric:We went up to.
Eric:Or the building's name, but I think it's like one.
Eric:It's right by the flag.
Eric:Oh, yes.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:I.
Speaker B:Not.
Speaker B:Liberty.
Eric:Liberty Pole by Liberty Pole.
Eric:Right across.
Speaker B:Okay, gotcha.
Eric:And we went up there and shot.
Eric:It was really cool.
Eric:And that was in the summer.
Eric:The rain.
Eric:The rain was kind of crappy that day.
Speaker B:It did rain that day.
Eric:It still worked out.
Eric:And yeah, I think that was the last one.
Eric:We did one with Aaron, we did one with Rudy, and that was the only ones I think we did last year.
Eric:But we would love to do more.
Eric:It's just that it's.
Eric:It's hard between all the other stuff we got going on, but we definitely look forward to doing other stuff in the community.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Eric:In terms of photography, like now we carry film.
Eric:We.
Eric:We have the apparel Flower City Photo Club.
Eric:And it's not a club.
Eric:It's.
Eric:It's just something that we.
Speaker B:It's just like anybody could join in.
Speaker B:Everybody.
Eric:Yeah, you're all in the club.
Eric:It's a Rochester photography thing basically.
Speaker B:For sure, for sure.
Eric:It's just kind of a way to show your.
Eric:Your respect for the photography community.
Richard:And yeah, I think it's also a great thing to say, like, hey, we did.
Richard:We did a bunch and we've, you know, other people are picking that up.
Richard:It doesn't have to be you forever and it doesn't have to be like the same people driving that.
Speaker B:For sure.
Richard:It's one of the great things about seeing the evolution of all the people picking up that mantle is that, yeah, you might have.
Richard:You might have done something that hit a moment, but it doesn't have to be forever because somebody else is going to want to do it and somebody else is going to do it their way and what a great thing.
Eric:And I think that's cool.
Eric:The community, we're always going to have stuff going on as long as everybody, we keep the momentum going and people are going to do stuff.
Eric:It's just like, man, that's awesome.
Eric:Now I can go to this person's the way this person's going to do it or this group's going to do it and be, you know, a witness to that and enjoy that.
Eric:But yeah, I mean, it's not to say that we're not going to do them again.
Eric:It's just that it's not on our radar, like at the moment.
Richard:Yeah, okay.
Richard:Maybe not as regular, but that's still like, you do it when you want to and you have a great time when you do.
Eric:Yeah.
Richard:That's awesome, man.
